They say be prepared for at least three days? No way!

Have you ever heard the advice for disaster, emergencies and other catastrophic events to “be ready to be on your own for three days,” or sometimes five days? Preparing for three days is certainly better than nothing, but what if infrastructure is out for ten days, or twenty or more?

I think that as long as one is ready for three days, why not go the whole distance and just be ready to go camping? Take the three-day kit and stick it into a backpack with your sleeping bag, clothes and water filter and you are almost ready to go. If the roads are closed, getting somewhere and taking your supplies along with you would be much easier with a backpack. With enough preparation and equipment, three days would seem too short! I feel that being ready for long-term camping is a better plan.
